We'll take part in a Jewish mystical practice of eating nuts and tree fruits that represent different spiritual qualities, and also do energy work practices to enhance these qualities. Everyone is welcome to this outdoor gathering. Afterwards, we can join the full moon potluck and drumming (see below). Overnight camping is available, and people are welcome to spend Saturday in self-guided meditation, conversation, reading, taking walks, making art, or whatever else renews them, with Havdalah under the stars Saturday evening. During the week we will let our pots dry. On the second Sunday, we will fire the pots in a camp fire using mesquite, gathered locally. Suggested donation for both days, $50 per adult, children 12 and under free. Danny August will lead the workshop, assisted by Liisa Reid, professional potter. Does the syntax itself of modern languages limit us to living in what shamans call the dream of the world, a place where suffering, fear and drama are the norm? Do ancient tribal tongues reflect a more holistic universe? What is the place of storytelling, and how does it jive with the written word?
We'll explore these and other questions as we let the magic of the Sonoran desert inspire our writing, reading and storytelling.
